The Institute of International Relations (IIR) - affiliated with Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences- will hold its annual International Summer Seminar from June 27 to July 2 on the island of Tinos.

The depletion of traditional fossil fuels is a given fact and scientists of all fields are trying to come up with innovative ways to produce energy and the use of fuel cells powered by cheese by-products such as whey is one of them. Research conducted by Dr Georgia Antonopoulou at the University of Patras has shown that whey is rich in lactose, which can be consumed by bacteria contained within a fuel cell in order to produce an electric current.
This technique has a double advantage, because it constitutes a way of processing raw waste water and generating electricity at the same time.

The 7th Annual San Francisco Greek Film Festival is screening 21 classical and contemporary short and feature films, by Greek and Greek-American filmmakers.
The lineup includes a combination of comedy and drama, a documentary, and for the first time, an animation film for children and adults.
These featured productions -such as Acadimia Platonos, Dogtooth, Wishes, Nisos (the Island), The Tree We Hurt, and The Man with the Carnation - have all together received 33 awards worldwide.

The European Jazz Festival in Athens is celebrating its 10th anniversary from May 21 to 30.
The festival - which is being staged at the Technopolis venue, in collaboration with the embassies and the cultural institutes of European Union member states- will feature 25 of the best known jazz ensembles.
