5grscintyFive young Greek scientists who excelled abroad were awarded with the 2017 Bodossaki Science Awards for their performance and contribution to the scientific fields of science, life sciences, applied sciences and social sciences.

The awards were presented by the President of the Republic, Prokopios Pavlopoulos, at a special ceremony held at the Zappeion Mansion (7.6.2017). This year's scientific awards were awarded to:

Kyriakos Papadodimas, Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen & Theory Group scientist at CERN, Geneva, for his work in the field of Science (Theory or Experiment : Nuclear Physics – Elementary Particle Physics – Astroparticle Physics).

Emmanuel Dermitzakis, Professor at the Department of Genetic Medicine and Development, University of Geneva Medical School, for his work in the field of Biosciences (Medicine or Biology).

Domniki Asimaki, Professor of Mechanical and Civil Engineering, California Institute of Technology, for her work in the field of Applied Science (Solid and Fluid Mechanics, Structural Mechanics, Materials, Geo-technical Systems).

Elisa Konofagou, Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Columbia University, for her work in the field of Applied Science (Solid and Fluid Mechanics, Structural Mechanics, Materials, Geo-technical Systems).

Konstantinos Arkolakis, Associate Professor of Economics, Yale University, for his work in the field of Social-Economic Sciences (Economic Science or Political Science).

The Bodossaki Foundation was established in 1972 by Prodromos Bodossakis - Athanasiadis and is one of the largest privately owned public-benefit organizations in Greece. It is currently active in four main strategic pillars: education, health and welfare, preservation of the environment and the empowerment of the civil society.

In 1993, in accordance with its founder’s wishes, the Bodossaki Foundation, established the “Awards of scientific excellence”. With these awards, the Foundation seeks to support the creative work of young Greek scientists up to 45 years of age, to reward their commitment and effort in the advancement of science and honor their moral dedication, as well as contribute to the promotion of exemplary paradigms for society.

Scientific prizes are awarded in the fields of science, applied science, social and economic sciences and bio-medical sciences. Candidates are normally nominated by universities, institutions or distinguished individuals.
