The 12th Annual Los Angeles Greek Film Festival (LAGFF) will be held on June 4 (UCLA), and June 6 – 10, 2018 at the landmark Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles.
The six day Festival celebrates the best of new films from Greek filmmakers worldwide and promotes Greek cinema and cultural exchange while bridging the gap between the filmmakers and Hollywood. This year a record number of 175film submissions were received ranging in subjects from immigration and economic collapse to documentaries about the beauty and history of Greece.With 11 features among which “Polyxeni’ by Dora Masclavanou, “Thorn” by Gabriel Tzafkas, “Rosemarie” by Adonis Florides and “Too much info clouding over my head” by Vassilis Christofilakis, 13 documentaries including “The great fire of Salonica: birth of a city” by Gregory Vardarinos, and 27 short films as well as several North American and West Coast premieres, the LAGFF 2018 line-up offers a colourful pallet of cinematic perspectives from Greek filmmakers worldwide.
“Polyxeni” (2017)
The 6th International Project Discovery Forum (IPDF), which is the industry section of LAGFFwill take place at the Egyptian Theatre, June 7-10, 2018. The International Project Discovery Forum (IPDF) is a Los Angeles pioneer in the promotion of international independent film development. Utilizing the innumerable resources that exist in Los Angeles, it aims to create a bridge between two very different worlds – those of American and Greek/Balkan independent cinema.
“Thorn” (2017)
The West Coast premiere of Tassos Boulmetis’ “1968” docudrama will inaugurate LAGFF 2018 at UCLA’s James Bridges Theater on Monday, June 4th and launch the start of collaboration with the newly established UCLA Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for the Study of Hellenic Culture. The screening will be followed by Q&A with the director Tassos Boulmetis and a light reception. Boulmetis will also offer a “non masterclass”, which is part of the Festival’s free industry programmes.
“Too much info clouding over my head” (2017)
The Closing Night will take place at the Egyptian Theater on June 10 and will include the Orpheus Awards Ceremony. The theme of this year’s “Orpheus Awards” is “The Academy of Greeks”, paying tribute to Greek artists who have received an Academy Award or Oscar Nomination since 1935. The Best Supporting Actor of “West Side Story”, George Chakiris, will be the honoree this year with actress Rita Moreno presenting his Award.

The Closing Night feature film “Perfect Strangers ” by Thodoris Atheridis will precede the star-studded Awards Ceremony which will be followed by a Greek feast at the Egyptian courtyard.
