The big night of the 96th Academy Awards 2024 had a strong Greek flavor, as Giorgos Lanthimos’ film Poor Things won a total of four awards, namely:

– Best Actress in a Leading Role for Emma Stone

– Best Production Design

– Best Costume Design

– Best Makeup and Hairstyling

Women, Peace and Security

“Women, Peace and Security” was the theme of the event organized by the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 8, 2024, International Women’s Day. The event was held in order to present the first National Action Plan for Women, Peace and Security (2023-2028) adopted by Greece. This was a key pillar in Greece’s bid to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2025-2026.

26th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival

From Thursday 7 to Sunday 17 March 2024, the 26th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival took place both in physical venues and online. The festival screened 250 short and feature documentaries, including 112 world, international and European premieres. The opening of the 26th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival was announced on Thursday evening, 7 March, by the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou. Greece at the London Book Fair

Greece participates for the first time at the London International Book Fair (Tuesday 12-Thursday 14 March 2024) with the participation of Greek publishers and cultural institutions. The exhibition has been organized since 1971 and welcomes every year more than thirty thousand publishing professionals, enhancing the networking and updating of the global publishing community. Greece’s national pavilion hosted about 40 Greek publishing houses and cultural institutions, which responded to the invitation for participation issued by the Ministry of Culture. In total, more than 700 publications in Greek and other languages were transported and displayed, as well as publications of the Ministry of Culture and its supervised bodies and cultural institutions.
