World Greek Language Day was celebrated on February 9th, 2026, at the Aula Magna of the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, at an event co-organized by the Apostoliki Diakonia of the Church of Greece and the Pontifical Oriental Institute (Pontificio Istituto Orientale of the Gregorian University), in cooperation with the Embassy of Greece to the Holy See.

On February 2nd, the Embassy of Greece in Israel, in cooperation with the Department of Classical Studies at Bar-Ilan University, hosted a special cultural event dedicated to Giorgos Seferis, Greek poet, diplomat, and 1963 Nobel Prize laureate, on the occasion of the World International Greek Language Day 📖
The event opened with a recorded message by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Yiannis Loverdos, followed by greetings delivered by the Ambassador of Greece to Israel, Ms. Maya Solomou.
Guests also had the opportunity to enjoy a photo exhibition from the Seferis Archive of the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation, offering rare glimpses into the poet’s life. A particularly moving highlight of the evening was the musical performance by Ensemble Mezzo, featuring songs with lyrics by Seferis, set to music by Mikis Theodorakis 🎼
