The MIT Enterprise Forum (MITEF) Greece Startup Competition, a technology accelerating competition in which Greek startups compete for prizes, is organized for the second year by Enterprise Forum Greece, with the vision to build a better world by accelerating the creation and growth of world-class technology companies. The competition winners, to be announced on June 30th this year, are the best of the best in Greece and will receive global recognition through the MIT Enterprise Forum Global, a global network devoted to enabling early-stage entrepreneurs to transform ideas into world-changing companies.

25 semifinalists selected this month to advance to the next round of the competition are Greek entrepreneurs – companies that span a diverse range of disciplines: six startups in Internet & Web, two in Biotechnology & Medicine, seven in Software, one in Transportation, one in Telecommunications, two in Computer & Electronics Hardware, one in Energy and five in other categories. Specifically, the 25 startups (in alphabetical order) are:  Apicallity Limited, ARK ANALYTICS,  BΑeTI, Championsid.com, Conclify, Contadd, Durasteelnet, ECOverified, Elektronio Handcrafted Vehicles, ErgoSensePro, EventReception.com, FEAC Engineering P.C.Hopwave, Insybio Ltd., Laddroller, Learning Out of the Box P.C., Rooms-2-let, Sentio Solutions Inc., StreamOwl, VesselBot, WEPOLITICS, Work it, Workathlon, Yodiwo and Your Moods.

Startup bannerSemifinalists have now started a three month period of intensive mentoring, with their assigned local and international mentors, and workshops, that will further their startup goals, such as: Perfect Pitch, Legal Matters, Marketing, Communication, Growth Strategies & Finance, Tax, and Human Resources. During this period participants will have a unique opportunity to improve their business skills, gain hands-on knowledge and valuable input, as well as network in Greece and abroad. Finals & Awards Ceremony of the MITEF Greece Startup Competition will be held at National Center for Scientific Research Demokritos on June 30, 2016, as a pre-forum event of the 4th Hellenic Forum for Science Technology and Innovation, which will be held under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aiming to act as a meeting point for Science, Technology and Innovation.

Despite the economic crisis that plagues Greece during the last years, there is a growing cadre of Greek entrepreneurs determined to defy the odds and build high-tech businesses that can thrive, providing a glimmer of hope for the economy. As the most highly educated generation in the nation’s history, they are determined to grow their ideas on home soil even as Greece grapples with budget austerity.
