World Theatre Day, initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute ITI, is celebrated annually on the March 27, with various national and international theatre events. One of the most important of these is the circulation of the World Theatre Day Message, a figure of world stature shares his or her reflections on the theme of Theatre and a Culture of Peace.

This year, the Author of the Message is Greek: the internationally acclaimed director Theodoros Terzopoulos. It is only the second time ever, with the previous Greek being playwright Iakovos Kambanellis in 2001.
